Certification
Apprenticeship is a proven "earn-while-you-learn" model that combines hands-on field experience with professional classroom instruction. In Nova Scotia, the roofing trade is a recognized and respected profession that offers a clear path to becoming a certified Journeyperson.
The Roadmap to Certification
The roofing apprenticeship program in Nova Scotia is designed to give you a deep understanding of modern building envelopes and roofing systems.
Duration
Typically involves three to four 12-month periods.
On-the-Job
Requires a minimum of 5,400 hours under supervision.
Technical
Three 6-week blocks of intensive technical training.
The Goal
Successful completion leads to the Red Seal Examination.

Requirements for Entry
You must have a Grade 10 education or equivalent to enter the roofer apprenticeship program in Nova Scotia.
Earn While You Learn
Unlike traditional university paths, you get paid by the hour while working on-site.
Apprentice Wages
Your pay starts at approximately 65% of the Journeyperson rate and increases steadily as you progress through each year of your apprenticeship.

RCANS facilitates technical training blocks in partnership with the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). Ensure your hours are registered with the NS Apprenticeship Agency prior to enrollment.
